NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Tuesday 22 June 1915

Roll of Honour. Death of Lieutenant Colonel G Hingston. We regret to announce the death of another gallant officer, Lieutenant Colonel George Bennett Hingston, third son of Mrs Hingston of 2 Upper Kings Cliff, who died on 16 June at Alexandria from wounds received in the Dardanelles. This distinguished officer was very well known in this Island and scores of his friends will regret to hear that his promising career has been brought to a close. He was educated at Highlands and later entered His Majesty's service. After much useful work at various stations he went through the Tochi campaign and had a very narrow escape, his horse being killed under him, whilst he was badly wounded. He went out to the present campaign in the East in command of the 29th Division of the Royal Engineers and whilst superintending the work of this important section during the fighting he received the injuries which caused his death. To his mother and other members of the family we beg to tender our sincere condolences in their bereavement.
