NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Wednesday 5 May 1915

Another Gallant Soldier Killed. It is with sincere regret we have to report the death of another gallant soldier, Pioneer Sergeant H E Pettifer of the 3rd Middlesex Regiment who was killed in action with his Regiment between 10/12 April. The deceased had a most promising career before him, for in less than 6 years he had risen to his present rank. At the outbreak of war he was serving in India with his Battalion and returning home, after a couple of days furlough, proceeded to the Front. To his widowed mother and many friends we beg to offer our sincere condolences in their bereavement.

At 8pm every evening, the Last Post is played inside the Menin Gate in remembrance.
