Women were now doing jobs that would never have been considered possible before the war:

"Mrs Scarborough, the sister of Mrs F Smith of 2 Allez Street, is now in Portsmouth working as a coal runner"

"Seated on the extreme left of the photograph is Miss Florence Mahy, the second daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Mahy, formally of Guernsey, now of Totterdown, Bristol. Seated next to her is Miss Elsie Rugg, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs F Rugg, Lowlands, St. Sampson's.
They have been engaged in an aeroplane factory somewhere in England for over two years"
